When did the snack bar at the gym become the health equivalent of a food kiosk at some gas station? Sugar, salt and more sugar — that’s all I see these days at most gyms. Salty snacks and sugary energy drinks. Yes, I’m guilty (very guilty) of buying this junk, but I know I need to stop. We cook with too much salt and sugar as well, which is why “diabesity,” the combination of diabetes and obesity, is so rampant in the United States. Stop the madness!

I’m curious to know people’s thoughts about the ongoing debate concerning chlorinated water. Is this issue a genuine public health hazard? If so, what steps can we take to mitigate the damage? I’m currently on the fence on this matter. Hence the desire to know more about the subject. Send me your thoughts.

I don’t care how much HINT you drink – and I drink a lot of it – because I nearly died today . . . from simple exercise!!!!! I foolishly decided to climb the infamous Santa Monica stairs, which, though an undeniably great workout, can leave you exhausted, dehydrated and screaming for Mommy. All of which did, in fact, happen to me Sunday afternoon. Here’s the moral of the story: don’t have coffee before a workout. Ever.

I hope everyone had a joyful and relaxing Labor Day. Alas, summer is over (or it soon will be). I spent the evening at a fun barbecue, where I was the designated HINT supplier; my friend had the far more arduous task of cleaning the grill. Fall is two weeks away, and soon my winter coat will come out of storage. Who am I kidding? There’s no winter in LA!
